Constructed in 1904 and 1905, three identical structures housed the early supervisors of the navigation locks and canal which provided river boats safe passage around the famous Cascade Rapids. The Port of Cascade Locks is committed to restoring each of the three Historic Locktender Homes to their original appearance. Each of the homes is actively used by the local community:
House 1 – The Cascade Locks Historical Museum (open May – September)
House 2 – Port Administration Offices (open Monday – Friday, 8am to 5pm)
House 3 – Community Center & Offices (available for rent by private groups for meetings and parties)
Thanks in part to multiple grants from the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), all three homes have received rehabilitation work over the past decade. Recent projects included replacing deteriorated siding, re-roofing, new staircases, and exterior painting on all three homes. Only the Community Center has received interior remodeling, including electrical wiring, hard wood floors, kitchen, bathrooms and windows.
